Uses and importance of research and evaluation findings for the discipline of victim services. (17-1 to 17-2) 2. Basic research terminology. (17-3 to 17-6) 3. Resources available to assist victim service providers in research and evaluation tasks. (17-11 to 17-15) Objectives: 1. Demonstrate a knowledge of basic research and evaluation techniques. 2. Apply basic knowledge to actual research or evaluation questions. Description of Activity and Faculty Guidelines: The instructor divides students into groups of ten. A faculty member assigned to each group offers mentoring and guidance about current research and program evaluation questions, based upon his/her own experience. Each group is instructed to select one area of research or evaluation and to design a methodology (such as research questions, hypotheses, list of variables, data collection methods, data analysis, etc.) for a research or evaluation study. The instructor facilitates a discussion of practical issues and challenges in conducting research and evaluation projects. Each group's findings can be recorded on tear sheets. This learning activity can also be expanded to have students utilize their NVAA site's library to search for current research.
