Eric Smith EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Susan Herman January 2002 Dear Colleague: The National Center for Victims of Crime is very excited to be partnering with the U.S. Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime, in bringing you the 2002 National Crime Victims' Rights Week Resource Guide. For those of you who are not familiar with the National Center, we are the nation's leading resource and advocacy organization for crime victims, dedicated to forging a national commitment to help victims of crime rebuild their lives. We invite you to learn more about us and take advantage of our resources at www.ncvc.org and through our toll-free Helpline, 1-800-FYI-CALL, which provides crime victims with supportive counseling, current information on available programs and services, direct advocacy, and referrals to more than 7,500 local victim serving organizations nationwide. This year's theme, "Bringing Honor to Victims," reminds us that we honor victims by providing comprehensive, quality services; by giving them the information they need to make their own choices; and by enacting and enforcing legal rights and protections in the justice system. Bringing honor to victims is a collective response to all victims of crime, recognizing the harm they've sustained, helping them rebuild their lives. I hope you find the ideas and resources in this Resource Guide helpful during your commemoration of National Crime Victims' Rights Week, April 21-27, 2002, and throughout the year. Please let us know if there are other ways we can be helpful to you. Best wishes, Susan Herman 2000 M Street, NW -- Suite 480 -- Washington, DC 20036 -- Tel. 202/467-8700 -- Fax 202/467-8701 -- www.ncvc.org
