The film emphasizes two basic self-protection precepts: (1) avoid placing yourself in a vulnerable position, and (2) avoid calling attention to yourself or to your property in ways that will attract criminals. The film shows viewers how they can protect their residence by creating the illusion that the premises are occupied, how they can secure their property while at home, and how they can take precautions concerning their telephones; e.g., not giving out information to strangers who call. In addition, the film advises viewers about safety precautions to take before admitting strangers into their home, before going out on the street, and before going out on the street after dark.
