Working groups at the workshop produced policy recommendations for prevention and victim evaluation/treatment for the following forms of domestic violence: assault and homicide, child abuse, child sexual abuse, abuse of the elderly, rape and sexual assault, and spouse. The U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. C. Everett Koop, reports to the subcommittee on the general problem and consequences of domestic violence as a public health issue. The Surgeon General's statement covers the need for public education and the education of health professionals about the causes and consequences of various forms of domestic violence. Dr. Koop also discusses television's influence on aggressive behavior and the enlistment of private organizations in violence prevention. Chairpersons of the workshop working groups on the evaluation/treatment of victims of rape and sexual assault, the evaluation and treatment of victims of child abuse, and the prevention of child abuse discuss with subcommittee members the policy recommendations of their working groups. The report contains the workshop report and the report on a survey of health professionals regarding their knowledge and management strategies in incest cases.
