In this study, demographic and lifestyle measures were used to develop an empirical classification of unofficial, nonpredatory, white-collar, and violent offenders.
Abstract
Using a sample of 504 adult, self-reported offenders drawn from the 1981-82 British Crime Survey (BCS), the results of a multiple discriminant analysis indicated that each offender group could be successfully differentiated and classified according to variables such as: age, alcohol consumption, weekend nights spent home, and personal victimization experiences. In addition, the findings from this study support the proposition that homogeneous offending patterns do exist among select subclasses of self-reported criminals. (Publisher abstract)
