Our intent was to determine (1) who among the public was most fearful and (2) who was experiencing general service and law enforcement contacts with the security force. We were also interested in determining how fear of victimization, contact with security, and personal-biographical characteristics of the public yield insights into evaluation of security personnel. The results of our analysis suggest that those who have need of the security force are using it, especially for non-law-enforcement functions. In fact, the public under study seemed to evaluate their security force more as a service organization than as a law enforcement force. (Publisher abstract)
