Simulation models can be used as a medium for training and increasing awareness of complex processes. In court administration there is a great need for such awareness in jury management. This management note describes a juror simulation (JURISM) that has been developed to address this specific need.
Abstract
JURISM simulates a metropolitan court environment, but can be adjusted to accommodate courts of any size. The user plays the role of a jury clerk for a simulated period of one month. During this time, the user is required to make decisions regarding the jury management process. JURISM can be used as a training medium for jury clerks and court administrators. It can also be used to increase the awareness of the complexity of jury management among judges, attorneys, legislators, and members of the public. (Publisher abstract)
