The industry perspective emphasizes the overall value of alarm systems in deterring and thwarting intruders and notes the reduction in false alarms per installation in recent years through improved installation and maintenance standards as well as employee and subscriber training. The police perspective focuses on wasted police resources involved in false alarms and the lack of industry initiative in cooperating with the police to address the problem. Speakers suggest improved communications, both formal and informal, between false alarm executives in the industry and police administrators. Other recommendations include improved system, installation, and maintenance standards; police-industry cooperation in identifying and remedying 'rogue' systems and subscriber faults; the establishment of a realistic data base on false alarms; and the phasing out of inadequate equipment and outmoded communicators.
