Abstract
The booklet advises officers never to be complacent nor inattentive to the task at hand, since potential threats exist in all manner of circumstances. Steps in mental and physical preparation for coping with hazardous situations are outlined. General survival tactics focus on devising a defensive strategy, principles for gaining control of a situation, and general protective measures. Specific techniques are suggested for weapon retention, incapacitation of an adversary, making an arrest, high-risk vehicle stops, routine vehicle stops, building searches, and hostage situations.
