Testimony on drug trafficking across the Mexican border into Arizona focuses on Federal, State, and local efforts to reduce drug supply and demand.
Abstract
Testimony by the director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety indicates that the drug supply across the border into Arizona has not been effectively checked nor is it likely to be even< with increased resources. He favors increased support for preventive programs that will motivate persons, particularly youth, to refrain from drug use. Representatives of the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Customs Service, and the Immigration and Naturalization Service testify on their agencies' efforts to reduce the supply of drugs across the border. Issues discussed include cooperation with Mexico to eradicate drug sources and the interdiction of planes flying drugs across the border. The panel on drug prevention includes representatives from the State board of education, the public school system, and the National Federation of Parents for a Drug Free Youth. High school students also testify about the availability of drugs for their peers and efforts to counter juvenile drug abuse. Some prevention materials are included.
