Papers devoted to particular principles and methods of crime prevention focus on deterrence and target hardening, environmental design, and treatment to effect behavioral change. Another paper addresses general community strategies for preventing crime. Papers on the crime prevention purposes and activities of various public agencies and institutions focus on the police, courts, social service agencies, and schools. For each of these agencies or institutions, crime prevention activities are identified and briefly described. Crime prevention in particular domains are discussed in papers that address the prevention of 'street' crime, family interventions to prevent delinquency, the prevention of crimes against businesses and industry, and the prevention of crime within and against public facilities (libraries, hospitals, parks, museums, and mass transit).
