Results of interviews and questionnaires indicate that the level of communication, coordination, and information among training academies and organizations is unsatisfactory, programs are being duplicated or overlap, and professionals are not being used effectively. In addition, many officers lack the skills to investigate complex drug cases effectively, a standardized training curricula does not exist, and the availability of drug training is limited. To remedy this situation, action will be undertaken to develop drug training workshops, videotapes, a model curriculum, and an instruction certification program. Other efforts will include technical assistance, a newsletter, and an interagency computer system that will provide extensive communication and support. (Author abstract modified)
