Areas of use included preparing for an event that may occur in the future (e.g., terrorist activity, demonstrations), researching an event or investigation that has occurred in the past, experimenting with new policing strategies, testing performance, and providing opportunities for developing specific skills. The College uses such technical aids as computers, random access videos, and interactive videos in its training. Simulations have been found to be more spontaneous and to create a better atmosphere for dialog than many of the more traditional forms of teaching. While they may be more expensive and take longer to develop and validate, they provide a valuable training aid for police. 11 references.
