MMPI Scale 4 (psychopathic deviate) and Scale 8 (schizophrenia) were both significantly elevated in the mean profile of this sample. However, contrary to some previous findings, no single two-point MMPI code type predominated; two-thirds of the sample had more than two MMPI elevations. Differences also were examined between offenders who has assaulted male versus female victims, older versus younger victims, used force versus nonphysical coercion, and committed incestuous versus nonincestuous offenses. While some statistically significant differences were found between offenders in the first two groups, these were not considered to be clinically significant. The limitations of the MMPI in differentiating criminologically defined subgroups and variables is discussed. 14 references. (Author abstract modified)
