This manual describes the procedures and techniques required for the staff of the Monroe County District Attorney Victim/Witness Program, which facilitates victim involvement in case processing and other victim services.
Abstract
A review of general staff conduct addresses confidentiality, dress, and compliance with work schedules. Following a brief statement on the history of the Victim/Witness Center, the manual describes the center's service categories: logistical services, victim/witness information, victim/witness notification and management, and victim/witness protection. The center's 19 services are then listed. A discussion of the center's impact on victims/witnesses is followed by a delineation of staff telephone procedures, subpoena preparation, trial preparation procedures, and transportation for victims and witnesses. Also discussed are interactions with police agencies, victim property release, victim/witness laws, victim rights, victim compensation processing, and victim impact statements. Sample forms used in the program are provided along with a checklist of 'do's' and 'don'ts.'
