Abstract
The introduction summarizes overall Federal drug law enforcement resource commitments, organizational improvements, and recent enforcement initiatives. The review of interagency programs encompasses the operations of the National Drug Enforcement Policy Board, the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program, the National Narcotics Border Interdiction System, the El Paso Intelligence Center, and the Vice President's South Florida Task Force. Following the presentation of information and data on the drug law enforcement efforts of the Defense Department and the military services, the report covers the work of Justice Department agencies and personnel. The latter section covers the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Marshals Service, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, U.S. attorneys, and the Criminal Division. Drug Enforcement efforts of the State Department focus on the Bureau for International Narcotics Matters. Drug law enforcement efforts under the Treasury Department include the Customs Service; the Internal Revenue Service; and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. The Department of Transportation efforts reviewed encompass the Coast Guard and the Federal Aviation Administration. The work of intelligence departments and agencies is also considered.
