Following background information on the task force, the report defines family violence and discusses both causes and legislative responses. Overviews of spouse abuse, elder abuse/neglect, and child abuse/neglect cover statistics on incidence, causes, and victim and offender profiles. The report's first recommendation calls for abolishing corporal punishment in Ohio's schools. Second, the task force suggests that the Ohio Department of Education develop a comprehensive education program for all instructional levels that addresses family violence issues. The third proposal recommends mandatory training in family violence for medical, clinical, and direct care staff of all State facilities administered by the departments of mental health and mental retardation. The report also recommends increasing funding for services to abused/neglected children and their families and creating the position of Executive Assistant for Family Issues. Appendixes include the Executive Order establishing the task force, interim task force reports, and policies and standards for domestic violence shelters.
