Introductory papers explain crucial concepts and terminology used in sociology and discuss the ways in which the occupational subculture of the police parallels certain aspects of racial and ethnic minority groups. The next section presents analyses of incidents of discrimination and problems in the relationships between police and minority communities in Ontario, the resulting distrust existing among some minorities, and efforts to improve police-community relations. The final section presents profiles of seven minority groups with whom Ontario police officers are likely to have professional contact.
