Technological advances are providing increased security from terrorist tactics.
Abstract
A number of new screening devices offer capabilities for detecting explosives in cargo and on passengers, for quickly detecting drugs and weapons in luggage, and for large-scale screening of air cargo containers. Computer technology is providing means for assessing potential damage of terrorist tactics and for aiding in effective architectural, landscape, and barrier designs. Activated barrier vehicles are providing another means of increasing perimeter security. A blast deflection shield can stop all types of bullets, reduce fragment hazard from a blast, and dissipate the energy from an explosion. Other technological advances that provide effective counterterrorism protection include interior activated barriers to capture or delay intruders; a flexible net barrier capable of stopping a 15,000 pound truck at 50 miles per hour; and explosives tagging and dielectric baggage screening. 1 note.
