Articles and advertisements provide a reference guide to closed-circuit television (CCTV) video surveillance components and systems.
Abstract
Components of single and multicamera surveillance systems are described including cameras, lenses, routing switchers, monitors, coaxial cables, and wireless transmission media. Types of equipment suitable for a variety of surveillance functions are discussed. Functions include monitoring areas, identifying personnel, detecting intrusion, providing evidence of an undercover operation, and deterring criminal activity. Factors to consider in choosing system components are discussed, including cost, lighting, and present and future needs. A glossary of CCTV and related terminology is provided, together with a list of information resources (readings, references, manufacturers, and training). Specific product information and sources also are provided.
