Results of a survey of a random sample of 1,000 'Security' readers (445 responses) indicate that the average security manager is a 45-year-old male, earning $42,000 a year, married, Republican, and with a bachelor's degree or better.
Abstract
Of respondents, 60 percent described their position as security manager, while 40 percent described their occupation as being in facilities, safety, business or operations management. A majority of respondents reported having responsibility for providing security for their entire organization, supervising 11 or more security employees, and undergoing annual reviews of security performance. A majority also reported being authorized to manage security operations and staff, recommend expenditures, specify security equipment and services, authorize purchases, and oversee the security budget. Budgets varied from $31,000 to $653,000 depending on organization size. Profiles of five security managers are provided. 5 tables.
