Asian and Pacific Island youth represent a rapidly growing segment of the population with increasing involvement in juvenile delinquency in the State. These youth experience special problems related to immigration and the acculturation process, including family conflict, identity confusion, reduced self-esteem, and normlessness. Among intervention strategies for preventing delinquency are the provision of forums for listening to youth, coordinated and collaborative stay-in-school programs, interagency and intergovernmental cooperation, provision of vocational training, and utilization of community resources. Examples of model delinquency prevention programs include community-volunteer juvenile probation programs, multiservice community centers, referral services, public education, and job training and youth employment programs.
