One treatment program in Florida determines eligibility for treatment on the basis of the offender's willingness to accept treatment voluntarily, absence of psychoticism or mental retardation, and a release date consistent with time needed for treatment. Assessment includes the collection of background and offense information and administration of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and the Multiphasic Sex Inventory -- a measure of sexual deviance. Group treatment goals focus on members' poor self-esteem, lack of appropriate assertiveness, poor social skills, and poor management of hostility and aggression. Particular methods depend on therapist attitudes and expertise and client variables.
