The models tested were Browning BPS; Franchi models LAW-12, SAS-12, SPAS-12 (slide), and SPAS-12 (automatic); Remington models 870 and 11-87; and Savage 69RXL. Standard requirements pertain to user information, visual inspection, dimensions, functions, safety features, firing, drop safety, and drop function. Each parameter was evaluated through visual inspection, dimensional measurements, and operational tests. One sample of each shotgun was tested. None of the shotguns complied with all of the minimum performance requirements of the standard. The Remington 870 complied with all but the user information requirements. A department may consider noncompliance with one or more of the functional requirements insignificant if the shotgun can be easily adjusted to conform to the standard, and the department has the personnel to perform the adjustment.
