Security professionals known to have a special interest in computer security were surveyed in 1986 to learn about their current and planned involvement with computer security, about how their organizations structure computer security decisionmaking, and about related issues.
Abstract
The 425 respondents represented 66 percent of the 640 members of the American Society for Industrial Security who received survey questionnaires. Eighty-seven percent reported some personal involvement with computer security concerns. Most reported that their organizations currently use some protective measures involving computer security. About half the organizations represented by the respondents plan to install additional devices or implement additional procedures in the next 2 years to enhance computer security. Respondents would like more information about devices and procedures for protecting system data and software and about computer security awareness training for various categories of staff. Survey results show that security managers are involved and will be involved in purchase decisions at least through the next 2 years. Figures.
