The Intensive Probation Program was developed to enable the juvenile probation department in Pennsylvania to provide more efficient supervision of high-risk adjudicated youth while remaining in the community.
Abstract
The program requires contact with youths a minimum of three times per week to ensure that probation rules are being followed and help is offered in dealing with problems. Also, the family, school, employer, and significant others are contacted. These services often enable prevention of commitment to treatment facilities which would require removal from home and community. This reduces placement costs; data results indicate that the majority of counties experience at least a 10-percent reduction in placements made during the first year of operation. An outline of the concept and requirements of the program is included. 1 figure and a listing of county juvenile probation departments.
