The Minnesota Department of Corrections conducted an intensive 9-month training program, the Minnesota Program for Victims of Sexual Assault, for racial minority human service professionals.
Abstract
The program was funded by a grant from the Northwest Area Foundation and took place from September 1983 through May 1984. The project aimed to improve the identification, intervention, and treatment for racial minority sexual assault victims and their families. The program targeted three minority populations: American Indians, blacks, and Hispanics. The 35 participants included 24 females and 11 males. The training included group presentations, small-group work, large-group feedback, and skill development. On the final evaluation, the participants rated each program component positively. Tests also showed that their knowledge increased substantially. Results indicated the effectiveness of this type of training in improving sexual assault services to racial minority victims and their families. Tables and appended forms, schedules, resource lists, and related program materials.
