Abstract
General information on the parole process covers the structure of the State Parole Board and its functions, the nature of the Bureau of Parole, parole officers, and the purpose of this handbook. The explanation of parole eligibility addresses how the eligibility date is computed, how 'good time' can reduce incarceration time prior to parole eligibility, what eligibility means, the impact of jail behavior on the parole release decision, the impact of an additional sentence on the parole eligibility date, and whether an inmate must accept parole. Issues in the discussion of the parole release process include inmate preparation for the hearing, how to receive an approved parole plan, timing for the hearing, hearing procedures, the function of the hearing officer, appeals, and parole conditions. Questions and answers on the parole rescission process focus on how a parole release date may be rescinded after it has been granted and the nature and possible results of a rescission hearing. Information on parole supervision and revocation covers such topics as the length of parole, parole violations, the probable-cause hearing, the purpose and procedures of the revocation hearing, and the consequences of parole revocation. Appendixes detail how to compute parole eligibility and how to appeal a parole decision.
