This report highlights New York State's Criminal Justice Information Improvement Program's (CJIIP's) major new projects and directions since the last report in September 1986.
Abstract
The CJIIP is the State's effort to overhaul and improve criminal justice information systems. During the past year, the request for proposal for the Statewide Automated Fingerprint Identification System was prepared and released. Evaluation of proposals was completed, and a vendor was selected in September 1987. Work has begun on several projects that directly address the information needs of criminal justice policy planners. A request for proposal is being developed for equipment to achieve intelligent switching and remote concentration in a criminal justice telecommunications network. In the area of prosecution information processing, current activities will produce standardized forms for drunk-driving arrest, a prosecution worksheet, and a comprehensive case tracking system. The Criminal Records and Information Management System is being developed to replace the system currently used by major State courts. Other projects underway relate to legal aid information processing, a standardized arrest report, a juvenile classification and movement system, a corrections history system, the expansion of a standard data dictionary, victim compensation, and online booking interface.
