Recognizing the link between learning disabilities and juvenile delinquency, in 1984 the Foundation for Children With Learning Disabilities (FCLD) provided grants to the American Bar Association, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and the Research and Development Training Institute to train juvenile justice personnel in identifying and managing juveniles with learning disabilities.
Abstract
The grants have resulted in the training of thousands of attorneys; family and juvenile court judges; and probation, police, and corrections officers. Three training documents were also developed under the grants. One is a manual for attorneys representing learning disabled children, the second is a bench book for juvenile and family court judges, and the third is a training packet for probation and police officers.
