This article focuses on the benefits of a security study and the five phases of the study.
Abstract
Profitability, the business goal of corporations, can be enhanced by effective security that reduces shrinkage, prevents theft, and protects vital assets. Corporate profits are being eroded by both internal and external criminal activities. The vehicle used to identify weak, vulnerable areas that provide opportunity for crime is the security study. The five phases of the study are: (1) the contracting meetings with top management to determine expectations and concerns; (2) data collection to determine crime patterns outside of the organization and weaknesses within it; (3) analysis where relevant information is reviewed and recommendations proposed; (4) feedback meeting to present a clear picture of the current security situation, make recommendations, and obtain commitment for the program; and (5) implementation.
