Cognitively-based programs that focus on sociomoral reasoning development in juveniles show significant promise in the treatment of juvenile delinquents, but their widespread and effective use depends on their effective dissemination to appropriate professionals and paraprofessionals through training.
Abstract
Important factors in the dissemination of effective innovative programs are organizational support, including both encouragement and release time from other obligations; and overlap of organizational needs and intervention goals; convincing evidence of the program's prior success; evidence of cost effectiveness; and initial and continuing contact with a credible and effective consultant for training, supervision, and trouble-shooting. Other significant factors in effective program dissemination are an on-site advocate of the innovation and the participating of the interventionists in intervention planning. The careful selection of trainees is also important as is frequent contact between the consultant and the organizational members responsible for the innovation and its evaluation. There should be cotherapists and some form of interpersonal network that fosters frequent contacts among interventionists. 28 references.
