In examining the body of a female homicide (stabbing) victim, a number of transfer impressions in blood were observed, and it was decided to attempt to develop the prints using an ortho-tolidine blood enhancement reagent.
Abstract
The reagent was applied to the victim's skin by means of an aerosol spray. Visible friction impressions were developed on the inner sides of the victim's right and left legs. A latent fingerprint and a partial palm print also were developed. These prints were photographed with a 35mm camera and black and white film using both flash and existing light. Color slides of the prints also were taken. In an attempt to lift the prints, they were covered with clear, plastic lifting tape and placed on a white backing card. Reexamination of the lifted prints revealed no significant loss of ridge detail. However, after several months, the lifts had turned brown in color, and the contrast between ridge detail and background was significantly diminished. 2 figures, 1 table, and 1 reference.
