Material for four training sessions is designed to help child protection workers serving American Indians to improve case management and service delivery decisionmaking.
Abstract
The purpose of the first session is to increase trainees' awareness of the role of decisionmaking in their case work. This includes instruction in a systems perspective for case-practice decisionmaking, major decision points in case practice, and data and standards essential for making informed decisions at major decision points. The second session introduces trainees to decision-support instruments which can assist them in making consistent, well-founded decisions. The third session describes how automated decision-support systems can assist caseworkers and managers in analyzing the problems and making decisions. This includes instruction in the nature of an automated decision-support system and its potential for trainees' agencies, how it operates, the major components and subcomponents of an effective automated decision-support system, and types of such systems. Trainees are also exposed to several such systems. The final session guides trainees in developing a framework and guidelines for improving decisionmaking processes in their own agencies. Outlines and materials are provided for each session.
