Four collections of painted cards, of the type used as reference samples in the vehicle refinishing industry, have been examined for suitability for incorporation in a data base of vehicle topcoat colours.
Abstract
One of these was considered more suitable for forensic science applications than the others and tristimulus values (X,Y,Z) were obtained for over 6000 samples. The data were then mathematically transformed to a uniform colour space and the sample distribution was plotted according to three colour axes. The evidential value of the plots is briefly discussed.
