In this testimony, the author argues that little information is available on disability of child abuse victims, and proposes that the California State Report Forms be amended to provide for collection of such data.
Abstract
It is hypothesized that data on victim disability would provide justification for child abuse prevention and treatment programs for the disabled population. Three recommendations are made: (1) that the State Report Form ask if the victim is disabled and indicate the type of disability; (2) that the mandated reporting system clarify regional center staff who are reporters; and (3) that specially trained persons be assigned to work with victims of abuse who are disabled.
