The protection services department of the Riverside Methodist Hospitals in Columbus, Ohio, held a 1-day retreat for administrative personnel and supervisors that focused on management styles, self-assessment, goal setting, and small-group problemsolving. An instructor from the Columbus Adventure Education Program introduced the program at a regular monthly meeting and conducted several basic team-building activities. The morning session involved team problemsolving activities, while the afternoon session consisted of 'high-ropes' activities for teams of two to three persons. Maneuvering on ropes and cables 25-40 ft. off the ground (under safety precautions and the supervision of trained instructors) taught participants to confront and conquer anxieties through a trust in one's own abilities and the support of team members.
