Asian immigration patterns are reviewed, and the problems and concepts brought by each of the ethnic groups are examined. Cultural differences, preconceived notions about police and Government, and Asian youth gangs are described, including extortion, armed robbery, narcotics trafficking and use, gambling, prostitution, and terrorism. The sophistication of some Asian criminals is illustrated in cases involving drug trafficking, falsified insurance claims, money transfers, kickbacks, asset hiding, and abuse of Asian credit unions. Criminal interactions among various Asian ethnic groups and non-Asian groups are described. Results of a survey of National and international law enforcement response to Asian crime describe programs, resource commitments, and crime prevention techniques. Finally, guidelines are provided on the use of interpreters, development of informants and operatives, interview and interrogation, and cross-cultural communication.
