Youth Helping Youth is a 6-week group experience developed by Boys Town to help abused youth to share their experiences with their peers and learn positive ways to cope with their problems. The program is designed to build self-esteem, communication skills, and other survival skills. This manual outlines the weekly sessions. The manual also notes four key points in the juvenile justice system when a responsible youth advocate might intervene: pre-incident/apprehension, incident/apprehension, detention hearing, and adjudication hearing. Suggestions for alternative approaches address both delinquency prevention and the sponsoring of a residential program. The manual concludes with descriptions of five successful Boys Clubs' Emergency Response Systems. They encompass a youth development program, a community service program, a restitution program, juvenile delinquency prevention in a multi-generational setting, and a group home.
