Information for teachers on the Klan reviews the historical development of the Klan, including its current status and reasons for current Klan growth. Ways to counter the Klan are also briefly discussed. Eleven lesson plans portray the history of the Klan, its beliefs, activities, and how to counter it. Each lesson plan contains lesson objectives, materials needed, teacher preparation, classroom procedures, and optional follow-up activities. The first lesson focuses on the current activities of the Klan, followed by lessons on the birth of the Klan, the death of reconstruction, the beginnings of white supremacy, and the Klan in the 1920's. Two lessons cover the civil rights era and the struggle for racial equality. The thoughts of an ex-Klansman are the focus of another lesson. Two lessons on 'myth vs. reality' address social perceptions and the process of scapegoating in Klan beliefs and activities. The concluding lesson guides students in countering the Klan.
