Subjects reviewed a 15-minute segment from a pornographic videotape ('Lucky Lovers') featuring homosexual intercourse, an R-rated videotape containing sexual humor and female nudity ('Porky's'), or the classic comedy 'My Little Chickadee.' Mean scores on a modified word-association measure of aggressiveness for the treatment group and the control groups were 29.5, 20.1, and 28.8 respectively. Homophobia scores for the groups were 83.6, 69.9, and 68.1, respectively. Analysis of variance indicated significant differences among the groups on both measures. Post-hoc comparisons using Scheffe's test showed that the mean aggression scores for those who viewed 'Porky's' were significantly less than those of the other two groups. The mean homophobia score was significantly higher for the treatment than for the control groups. While the strength of conclusions is limited by the small sample size, results suggest that exposure to a videotape containing sexual humor and nudity is associated with lower aggressiveness, while exposure to homoerotic material is associated with increased homophobia. 4 references.
