In July 1986, the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) began collecting information from each of the State Coalitions Against Domestic Violence. The information in this report, along with other data collected by the coalition, is the beginning of a 'State-of-the-States' data base on domestic violence activities nationwide.
Abstract
In July 1986 NCADV mailed three separate surveys to each of the 53 State Coalitions Against Domestic Violence (California has three regional coalitions). The surveys focused on State coalition activities, State domestic violence legislation, and Shelter standards. Thirty-six State coalitions completed the forms in time to be included in this report. Thirty-three coalitions completed the survey on State coalition activities. Among the topics covered in this survey are the year when the coalition was established, coalition staffing, eligibility for membership in the coalition, coalition funding, coalition organization, services to members, member training, materials developed by the coalition, and data on coalition clients. Among the topics covered in the survey on shelter standards are areas covered by the standards and methods mandated to ensure compliance with the standards. Topics addressed in the survey on State domestic violence legislation include law enforcement training, funding of domestic violence programs, and datacollection/reporting of domestic violence.
