Family violence research has a mixed reputation, with some research being deemed insensitive to the larger issues involved or detrimental to programs or the movement.
Abstract
The Activist Research Task Force was formed to make research relevant and useful to the battered women's movement's goals of safety and freedom for battered women and their children. The ART goals are relevant to the Nursing Network on Violence Against Women, as nurses are participating in the identification of questions and issues that they believe should be addressed by ART. A number of strategies for facilitating participatory research were suggested. Although this type of data collection requires more time and energy than traditional methods, it is believed that the outcomes will be helpful and relevant to battered women and their children. 4 references.
