Each funded project is expected to provide a wide range of educational, treatment, and law enforcement services to students, faculty, parents, and community groups. After presenting program goals and funding history, statutory and programmatic requirements as well as funding limitations are presented. Mandated program components include establishment of a DSP advisory committee; drug traffic intervention programs; school and classroom programs for elementary, junior high, and high school students; family-oriented programs; use of appropriate written and audio-visual aids for training school and law enforcement staff; and development of a coordinated intervention system that identifies students at high risk of chronic drug abuse problems and refers them to some form of counseling. Project-selection procedures and administrative requirements are presented. Administrative requirements include an evaluation plan; quarterly progress reports and data collection; financial reports; monitoring requirements; and media, education, and training materials.
