NCJ Number

Length
160 pages
Annotation
This trainer's guide for police training in response to family violence outlines the agenda of the 2-day seminar and provides participants a sense of the range and scope of the topics to be covered.
Abstract
Portions of the trainer's guide introduce specific topics to participants prior to coming to the seminar. Those who complete the exercises in the guide will know what to expect at the seminar and will be prepared to offer questions and commentary. The guide, through its collection of lesson-plan outlines and its extensive appendix, serves as a training tool and reference. Sections of the manual cover the impact of arrest on domestic-assault recidivism, police liability in domestic-assault cases, intervention and investigation, and crime prevention and victim assistance. Sections particularly for the trainer's guidance cover the trainer's role, curriculum development, implementation strategies, model policy and curriculum, and instruction tools and techniques. The appendix contains information on the nature of family violence, resource and research information, and recommendations.
