Fourteen percent of all the AIDS cases were among Hispanics. Of the 8,708 Hispanics with AIDS, 502 were youths aged 15 to 24 years. The number of young Hispanic persons with AIDS has increased continuously by year of diagnosis. Most of them are males, most often homosexual or bisexual, including 11 percent who also reported intravenous drug abuse. Most of the females were intravenous drug abusers or sex partners of male drug abusers. More than 72 percent lived in California, Florida, New Jersey, New York, and Texas. Findings showed that AIDS has been disproportionately overrepresented in Hispanics, including Hispanic youth.
