A representative sampling of occupations is reviewed in the fields of law enforcement, corrections, courts, forensic science, and private security. One chapter presents descriptions of criminal justice occupations as viewed by professionals in the jobs. Suggestions for "testing the waters" in various criminal justice careers are offered. These include gaining work experience through volunteer activities and internships. A chapter on the "job hunt" suggests contacts with people who can help in the hunt and provides details on constructing a resume and a cover letter. Other issues addressed in the job hunt are the civil service strategy, taking tests, and the job interview. The latter covers preparation, the initial meeting, information sharing, the closing, and after the interview.
