Participants came from such disciplines as history, philosophy, sociology, psychology, literature, and education. Their discussions focused on the nature of moral education, the history of moral education in the United States, the place of religion in moral education at school, the relationship between a school's moral climate, and moral education. Participants also discussed who should teach moral education, whether everyone needs to agree about what is moral, whether a specific curriculum exists for moral education, and what research can contribute to the subject.
