Life skills are a set of social skills that enable persons to be at ease in many and varied contacts with other persons. They are an assortment of positive feelings, beliefs, and behaviors that help persons handle stress and achieve psychological as well as physical health. Part 1 contains four chapters designed to lay the foundation for parents to teach their children life skills. One chapter helps parents to avoid encouraging children in irresponsible and self-destructive behavior. Other chapters in Part 1 address facts about juveniles' use of alcohol and drugs, a job description for parents, and a job description for juveniles. Part 2 guides parents in teaching life skills to their children. Special issues and concerns discussed in Part 3 focus on parental alcohol/drug use and the parent recovering from such use.
