A survey was conducted on cannabis users among young people in 1983 and compared with earlier surveys to design preventive and intervention measures.
Abstract
The survey covered frequency of use with reference to age and sex and peer group influence. The data showed an increase in the number of cannabis users, and a close relationship between early onset of cannabis use and the increased risk of using more dangerous drugs, such as heroin and cocaine. Cannabis use was highest among the older juveniles, the unemployed, and those who smoked tobacco, drank alcohol, and used other illicit drugs. 6 tables and 19 references. (Author abstract modified)
